Camariñas lace was one of the protagonists of the Martín Códax Music Awards, which were held yesterday, Wednesday 28 May, in Pontevedra. Specifically through the winning collection of the XXXI Mostra do Encaixe New Designers Competition, 'Mitra', by Estefanía Orgaz and Pedro Orgaz, which was the wardrobe chosen by the presenter of the gala, the Coristan reggae singer Lupe Blanco.
Lupe Blanco, who wore two of the dresses from the 'Mitra' collection during the gala, explains that "I wanted to wear something that represented my work and my area and I thought about the lace of Camariñas, but I didn't know if it would be possible. One day, while doing an activity with the boys and girls from the Camariñas high school, they guided me and put me in touch with the City Council, who showed me the wardrobe".
"From the first moment I liked the 'Mitra' collection by Pedro and Estefanía and it suited me because I wanted to focus on our traditions. I tried on three models and all three suited me well but, speaking with the awards production department, we saw that it was impossible to change clothes to wear them all so I had to decide on two of them," he indicated.
For their part, Estefanía and Pedro Orgaz comment that "for us, it means seeing that the great artisanal work we did continues to have life and it is very satisfying to see that it has not only remained on the catwalk of the contest but that it has also been given life in this event and we hope that in some more". "In the end it's an artisan job with many hours and many handmade details that deserve to continue to have an impact", they add.
