Inauguration of the photographic exhibition "Palilleiras. Present and Future"

Today the opening ceremony of the exhibition, entitled 'Palilleiras. Present and future', took place, consisting of photographs from a project by photographer Ana García. Sandra Insua highlighted that "few tributes are as deserved as this one since the palilleiras are the greatest symbol of Camariñas and in many parts of the world we are known thanks to their work". The director of Commerce and Consumption, Manuel Heredia, explained that "we will always be by the side of the artisan sector and this is one of the most outstanding in the community".

Today, the Plaza de la Insuela, in front of the town hall of the Camariñas City Council, hosted the inaugural event of the exhibition 'Palilleiras. Present and future' which will remain in this space until October with the aim of paying tribute to the work of the palilleiras, a tradition turned into a profession that is part of the municipality's heritage.

This is a small tribute to the work and effort of the lacemakers who, generation after generation, make the Encaixe de Camariñas a unique art in the world. The photographs of the 22 totems that will be installed are part of a project carried out in December 2019 by Ana García, photographer for Voz de Galicia.

Inauguration of the photographic exhibition "Palilleiras. Present and Future"

On a Wednesday like today, if the traditional Mostra were held, the official inauguration would take place and today this tradition was commemorated with the cutting of the ribbon by the mayor of Camariñas, Sandra Insua; the general director of Commerce and Consumption, Manuel Heredia; and the photographer Ana García.

Sandra Insua explained that “few tributes are as deserved as this one since they are the greatest symbol of Camariñas and in many parts of the world they are known thanks to their work and effort creating art through lace” and congratulated Ana García “for allowing us to enjoy this beautiful exhibition”.

Manuel Heredia explained that “we will always be by the side of the artisan sector and this is one of the most outstanding in the community” and for her part, Ana García, highlighted that “it is impossible not to fall in love with the lace of Camariñas and this is a tribute to the work and effort of the lacemakers”.
