The Camariñas lacemakers design lace pieces for application on masks

They are made by the associations Puntillas e Rendas and will be incorporated into the existing lace catalogue. The director of the Mostra, Dolores Lema, explained that “fashion designers are already requesting them”.

Lace is a tradition that continues to adapt to new times and emerging needs. Thus, the lace makers of Camariñas are designing lace pieces for application on masks, which are currently mandatory in public spaces.

These lace pieces are made by the local associations Puntillas y Rendas and will be incorporated into the existing lace catalog. The objective is twofold: on the one hand, for fashion designers to use them in their designs and, on the other, for lace makers to create their own masks to sell in their stores.

The director of the Camariñas Lace Exhibition of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, Dolores Lema, explained that “we decided to take this step because many fashion designers are already requesting adapted lace pieces to be used in the masks they are creating.”

This is the case of designer Esteban Freiría with his Neno collection, which he defines as follows:

"When you are born and grow up in Galicia, your DNA is different. You grow caressed by the waves of the sea, and the grass of the mountains. Everything is color, light and above all life. This is how this collection is, a new path where I want to emphasize where I come from, and things that have always caught my attention. The collars of La Toja, the fields of margaritas and vinaigrettes, the beaches of Cíes, the smell of the sea, the lace of Camariñas that I wore in my Galician costume, the cruises... I think that life is not about tirelessly searching for where you want to go, but about never forgetting where you come from".
