The local government of Camariñas is convinced that the Mostra do Encaixe meets all the requirements to be considered a festival of national tourist interest and, therefore, will take a proposal to the plenary session this Friday, January 31, to formalize the application.
The requirements established by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism to make this declaration effective are the following:
“The declaration of a festival of national tourist interest will be granted to those festivals or events that, having been declared a festival of tourist interest by the corresponding autonomous community for at least five years, represent manifestations of cultural values and a long popular tradition, with special consideration for their ethnological characteristics and which have a special importance as a tourist attraction. Said declaration made by the autonomous community may not include
the name of national".
The steps to make this proposal a reality include, first of all, obtaining a favorable report from the Xunta de Galicia and, once this has been obtained, requesting the Secretary of State for Tourism to declare the Camariñas Lace Show as a festival of national tourist interest.
For this, municipal technicians have already prepared a complete dossier that includes an explanatory report with the origins, history or roots of the event in the town; a summary of the Mostra's dissemination plan and the impact it has at a national level; and also images and videos of both different promotional activities and the event itself.
The mayor, Sandra Insua, is “confident that sooner rather than later we can achieve this distinction that will help us in a very important way to continue promoting the Camariñas Lace Exhibition and to spread our values and our culture throughout the national territory”.
