The Encaixe de Camariñas and the Ourives de Santiago de Compostela today signed the mutual collaboration of both identity groups with the signing of an agreement aimed at the dissemination of culture, tourism and crafts of both localities, while at the same time aiming to boost the economy of both guilds and promote research in which the palilleras, on the one hand, and the jet and silversmiths, on the other, are the pillars on which this agreement is based.
The signing of the agreement took place this morning in the capital of Galicia, at the Pazo de Fonseca in Santiago de Compostela, between the mayor of Camariñas, Sandra Insua, and Arturo Ouro Hortas, president of the Association of Artisans and Merchants 'Ourives de Compostela', a non-profit entity that brings together the artisans of silversmiths and jet makers of Santiago de Compostela and has more than twelve hundred years of history in the city. There was a live demonstration of toothpick making by members of the Rendas and Puntillas Associations.

By offering unique products, it is intended to increase the tourist attraction that both Camariñas and Compostela already have, in addition to showing how the product is worked live. The generation of jobs is another basic point on which this agreement is based, in addition to attracting future artisans who seek to settle in either of the two locations, as a place of work and artistic expression.
“In the City Council of Camariñas we are very aware of the importance of the craftsmanship of the toothpick, the toothpick holders and everything that surrounds the Encaixe. That is why I never tire of repeating that a people that does not respect its traditions has little present and less future”, began her speech the Camariñan mayor, who anticipated “the possibilities that open up with this signature in the ArtEncaixe section, a project that was born in the thirtieth edition of the Mostra and where, I am sure, goldsmiths will have a very prominent place”.
