The closing day of the XXXIII Camariñas Lace Exhibition of the Provincial Council of A Coruña served to reveal the winners of the XXX New Designers competition. The first prize, awarded by the mayor of Camariñas, Sandra Insua, went to Cristina Gamallo, who won over the professional jury with her collection I am walking.
The manager of the Vilan de Stolt Sea Farm plant, José Figueroa, presented the prize to Dryad, by Laura Araujo, which came in second place; while the collection Rags from Uxía Loureiro, who received the award from the head of institutional relations at Frigoríficos de Camariñas, Verónica Canosa; reached third place. The award for the “Most Commercial Collection”, presented by the president of the Association of Businessmen and Tourism Promotion of Camariñas, Olga Campos, went to Miriam de Rio, with They.
In this edition, a total of 4,500 euros were distributed in prizes divided as follows: a first prize of 2,100 euros, a second of 1,200 euros, a third of 600 euros, and the prize for the “Most Commercial Collection” also of 600 euros.
A total of 35 young people who are taking their first steps in the world of fashion have applied for these awards. The backgrounds of the new designers were very diverse, having trained in the best schools in the state.
The jury was composed of the following designers: Modesto Lombra, Charo Carrillo, Ana Cabranes, Esteban Freiría, Felipe Santamaría, Miriam Cartagena and Francisco Basteiro.
At the closing ceremony, the councilor of Encaixe, Encarna Liñeiro, stated that “The Mostra preserves the essence of what it has always been. It is craftsmanship, tradition, identity and love for oneself. But now it is much more. It is a unique event, in Galicia and throughout the country, a reference catwalk at a national level, which bears the name of Camariñas throughout the world!
In her speech, she reviewed the different slogans of the event since she took over as councilor. “I wanted the slogans of each edition to reflect this new reality, I started with '30 years at the forefront of fashion, emphasizing the trajectory; the following year we wanted to know if you fit in paradise; in the previous edition we made it clear that 'Camariñas is in fashion' because we are the national fashion capital during Easter; and even with all this 'Camariñas Surprizes', Camariñas and Mosstra always have something new and different to offer”.
