Given the indications issued by the Ministry of Health, recommending that no large event be held due to the emergency situation generated by the expansion of the Coronavirus, the City Council of Camariñas decided to cancel the XXX Camariñas Lace Exhibition, which was to be held from April 8 to 12.
The mayor, Sandra Insua, explained the decision today and specified that "it would be irresponsible on our part to continue with the organization of an event that, like every year, will bring together thousands of people from different backgrounds."
"Today is not a good day, I never thought I would be forced as mayor to suspend the Mostra do Encaixe, but my heart should not come before my head or the responsibility that the citizens of Camariñas transferred to me in the last elections," she continued.
The mayor also wanted to apologize to the hospitality sector, which will clearly be affected by this decision, and also to the designers, international delegations and volunteers who participate in the Lace Fair year after year.
"This was a very special edition for everyone, both for us as a government and for the residents of Camariñas, since we celebrated the thirty years of life of the Mostra with multiple novelties such as the 'ArtEncaixe' parade, a great concert, video mappings... But we believe that safety comes first and, given the context of uncertainty in which we find ourselves, we could not guarantee it one hundred percent", he stressed.
In addition, Sandra Insua announced that "the XXX Camariñas Lace Exhibition will be held in 2021 given the impossibility of finding available dates at this point to be able to hold the event with all the guarantees" and also guaranteed that "we will work together with everyone to find solutions that mitigate the impact that this sad cancellation will have."
