The City Council of Camariñas will organize from March 29 to April 4 the second virtual edition of the Camariñas Lace Exhibition of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, which presents new features compared to last year and on this occasion will change its operation to focus on the commercialization of lace and the publication of the collections of the Young Designers competition in different tourist enclaves in the municipality.
The organization decided to extend the event to the whole week to accommodate a complete program, which will begin on Monday, March 29 with the opening of the II Virtual Exhibition and the institutional speeches of the mayor of Camariñas, Sandra Insua; the president of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, Valentín González Formoso; and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. In parallel, the Lace Museum will host at 12 noon the presentation of a Once coupon with the image of the XXX Lace Exhibition.
The aim of this event is to market lace and promote the work that local businesses do annually in this field. Therefore, from Tuesday 30 March to Sunday 4 April, participating stalls will offer a series of lace products on Facebook that will have special offers on those dates. A space will be set up on the event website www.mostra.es during these dates where you can also find the offers that each establishment has.
On the other hand, a video of each collection of the XXVII Young Designers' Contest will be published on different days. Many of these were recorded by students of the Degree in Audiovisual Communication of the University of A Coruña (UDC) in different locations of the municipality and with local models as protagonists. Also, the palilleras, the girls from the palillo schools or the volunteers will have their own space, among others.
On Wednesday, March 31, as part of the II Virtual Exhibition, the exhibition 'Palilleiras: present and future' will be inaugurated in the Plaza de la Insuela. It is a small tribute to the work and effort of the palilleiras who, generation after generation, make the Encaixe de Camariñas a unique art in the world. The photographs of the 22 totems that will be installed are part of a project carried out in December 2019 by Ana García, photographer for Voz de Galicia. This exhibition is scheduled to remain in the plaza until October.
The closing ceremony will be held by the director of the Mostra, Dolores Lema, and the councilor of the Mostra, Encarna Liñeiro. In addition, there will also be space for music since the Jaque Group wanted to be part of this event with their own version of the well-known song 'Camariñas'.
To start things off, and as a prelude to the event, on Sunday, March 28, the project 'Ruth Matilda, A Costa da Morte', the work of the Camariñán, will be published. Victor Fernandez AlvesThrough two publications, she will compile some of the photographs that Ruth Matilda Anderson took during her visit to Camariñas almost 100 years ago and in which she shows those lacemakers who worked in the streets and in the houses weaving the lace.
The broadcasting platforms for the second edition of the Virtual Mostra will mainly be the Mostra Facebook page (@MostradoEncaixe) and there will also be content on Instagram (@Mostraencaixemarinas) and on the Youtube channel (@Mostradoencaixe).
The mayor of Camariñas, Sandra Insua, thanked “the effort of the Mostra department to devise, yet another year, a way so that we would not have an Easter without lace” and praised “the work of both the models and the boys and girls who recorded the videos because I could already see some progress and they are of great quality.”
For her part, the councilor of the Mostra, Encarna Liñeiro, highlighted the importance of “keeping the tradition alive since throughout the country and especially in Galicia, Easter is always related to the Mostra do Encaixe and we cannot lose that feeling” and recalled that “at the same time as we are holding the Virtual Mostra, we continue working so that the thirtieth edition of the Mostra, scheduled for October, is a complete success and helps to reactivate the economy in the area”.
Finally, the director of the Mostra, Dolores Lema, wanted to encourage people to "actively participate by purchasing the lace products that the stalls will offer" since "as designed, this virtual event will allow the marketing and promotion of lace, a fundamental element in the family economy of our region."

The Virtual Encaixe Exhibition was born in 2020 as an alternative to the suspension of the thirtieth edition of the physical event due to the health context generated by the expansion of COVID-19.
At that time, all the groups involved in the regular operation of the event were involved. A block schedule was drawn up, following a structure similar to that of the regular event calendar, and which included specific slots for Great Designers, Young Designers, Artencaixe, Pequencaixe, Xuntanzas Palilleiras, International Delegations, Companies, Artists, Volunteers, Stands and Media.
The Department of the Mostra do Encaixe asked all these groups to send their videos introducing themselves and transmitting encouragement and strength.
to meet again and face the thirtieth edition with even more enthusiasm
of the event.
The data was spectacular. An audience of 237,962 users who viewed the 175 videos from their homes from Wednesday to Sunday.
