A floral carpet from the Ponteareas Carpet Makers' Association will be displayed at the Camariñas Lace Exhibition

A team of carpet workers will travel to Camariñas in the early hours of Wednesday, March 27, to get it ready for the inauguration ceremony.

The Corpus Christi Carpet Makers Association of Ponteareas will participate in the Camariñas Lace Exhibition of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, making a carpet of flowers like those made in Ponteareas during the Corpus Christi festival.

A team of carpet makers from Ponteareas will travel to Camariñas to make this carpet in the early hours of Wednesday, March 27th and have it ready for the opening ceremony of the Mostra.

The Association thanks “the City Council of Camariñas for being able to make this carpet of flowers possible” and explains that “it is a collective work that expresses the popular culture of the people of Ponteares who, over two hundred years, have known how to preserve and promote this celebration, recognized as a 'Festival of International Tourist Interest'”.

Candidacy for the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list

The Ministry of Culture will present the nomination of 'The tradition of creating floral carpets and ritual compositions with natural materials' to Unesco as an international nomination to enter the representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, which will be evaluated in 2025 and the Ponteareas carpets are the only representatives of Galicia.
