The Mostra do Encaixe will manufacture 15,000 masks against the Corona Virus

14,000 will be manufactured with 'tissue-in-tissue' (TNT) that the City Council acquired. The other 1,000 will be manufactured with 100% cotton, donated by the company Yutes (Barcelona). They will be distributed among the most vulnerable people, workers, and also to the general population. They are not approved, so they cannot be used in the healthcare field.

The City Council of Camariñas has just begun the process of making a total of 15,000 masks that will later be distributed to people at risk and to the population as a whole to fight against the spread of COVID-19.

The local government mobilized the Mostra do Encaixe department so that, through its contacts, the material could be obtained and a network of volunteers created to make protective masks for citizens and thus minimize coronavirus infections.

This network of volunteers, who will work from their homes, is made up of 40 people, who will be divided between cutting and sewing to create the masks, which will all be made with double fabric for greater protection. 14,000 will be manufactured with 'woven-in-fabric' (TNT) material that the City Council acquired and another 1,000 with 100% cotton donated by the company Yutes, from Barcelona. The material is being distributed by agents of the Local Police and Civil Protection to the volunteers' homes.

These workers will also be responsible for collecting all the masks when they are ready and will also be responsible for distributing them. This material will be aimed at the entire population, especially the most vulnerable groups and workers.

The distribution will be made through companies that must be open to the public: supermarkets, pharmacies, bakeries, food stores, agro... In addition to providing masks for their workers, a stock will be left for people who go shopping to pick them up.

The mayor of Camariñas, Sandra Insua, recalled that "although these masks are not valid for healthcare personnel as they are not approved, they are a useful tool for the day-to-day lives of the residents of Camariñas in times when it is very difficult to find this product."
