'And you, do you fit into paradise?', the call of the Festival to promote Camariñas beyond crafts

An ancient tradition and a beautiful and imposing nature, the focus of the thirty-first edition of the Mostra, which was presented to the public today at FITUR, at the Turespaña stand. The promotional video takes us on a journey from the Virxe do Monte, a place where paradise is found, to the rampant dune of the Trece sands, image of the Mostra poster. Sandra Insua encouraged visitors to “visit us during Easter, attend the Mostra do Encaixe and take the opportunity to discover the beautiful heritage that Camariñas has, I am sure that she will return”. Ainhoa Toba, a volunteer at the Mostra, is the protagonist of the video and also of the promotional poster that was projected all week on the screens of Callao and Gran Vía.

The International Tourism Fair (FITUR) that is being held these days in IFEMA (Madrid) is once again the place chosen by the City Council of Camariñas to present the XXXI edition of the Camariñas Lace Exhibition of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, which will be held from April 13 to 17 and which, with the question 'And you, do you fit into paradise?', calls for Camariñas to be made known for its wealth and heritage beyond craftsmanship.

The edition in which the traditional dates of Semana will be recovered, after the hiatus of the thirtieth Mostra that had to be held in October due to the pandemic, makes a clear commitment to uniting the ancient tradition of lace that today is at the forefront of fashion with nature, beautiful and imposing, which can be enjoyed in Camariñas.

At the presentation, held at the Tourespaña stand, the promotional video was shown for the first time, in which a tour is made from the Virxe do Monte to the rampant dune of Monte Branco, image of the poster. There, a girl, Ainhoa Toba, volunteer of the Mostra do Encaixe, can be seen dressed in a lace dress and collecting some chopsticks while taking a look at the beautiful and imposing landscape that surrounds her: the Trece sand dunes.

All the parishes and emblematic places of the municipality are represented in this audiovisual piece: the hermitage of the Virxe do Monte, the port of Camariñas, the work of the shellfish gatherers, the barnacle fishermen of Santa Mariña, the natural space of Ariño, the mouth of the Rio Grande, the Ponte do Porto, Camelle, the Museum and the house of Man, Arou, the church and the town of Xaviña, the church of San Xurxo, the Faro Vilán, the beaches of Reira, the cemetery of the Ingleses and the beach of Trece with its rampant dune.

The mayor of Camariñas, Sandra Insua, encouraged visitors during her speech to "visit us during this Holy Week, attend the Encaixe exhibition and take advantage of your stay to discover the beautiful heritage we have. If you do, we are sure you will return."

“Camariñas is made of lace, that is undeniable. Our way of being, our customs and our traditions are woven with care by the hands of our beloved palilleiras”, explained the mayor, who added that “Camariñas is also made of sea and land. We believe that paradise is in Camariñas and we are going to convince you of that. Because we are much more than lace: we are Cabo Vilán and its imposing lighthouse, we are the English Cemetery and its fascinating and terrifying history, we are the free art that Manfred sculpted in Camelle, we are the legend that is hidden in the Virxe do Monte, we are our spectacular beaches bathed by the Atlantic with fine white sand”.

The XXXI Lace Fair will continue in the same vein as the previous one, focusing on innovation and the integration of lace into different Galician crafts, in addition to fashion shows featuring some of the country's best designers and also the promise of the design world with the young designers' competition. In addition, as a novelty, stands from designers and specialized magazines are planned to be installed in the venue.

Screens in the center of Madrid

To contribute to the dissemination of the XXXI Lace Fair, the City Council of Camariñas, as it had already done in 2020, decided to bring the Lace Fair to the heart of Madrid. Thus, taking advantage of the Fair's presentation at FITUR, it scheduled a promotional poster to be projected on the large digital screens in Callao on Gran Vía throughout the week of January 17 to 23.

The protagonist of this poster, as well as the video, is the Mostra volunteer Ainhoa Toba who, from the top of the Monte Branco dune, in a lace dress and holding some chopsticks and the sand, appreciates the beautiful horizon of the beaches of Trece.

In the image you can see the slogan of this edition: 'Do you fit in paradise?' and a clear reference to the municipality and the dates of the event: 'Camariñas, heart of the Costa da Morte. Easter 2022'.

The objective of this advertising campaign is to continue promoting the Lace Exhibition and tourism in Camariñas outside our borders, to consolidate the event as the fashion capital during Easter and attract a greater number of visitors.

Camariñas, the paradise of the Camino de Santiago

The appeal that brings together the essence of this XXI Lace Exhibition has to do with the plan that the City Council has in place to highlight Camariñas as the final stage, or the 'paradise' of an alternative route of the so-called Way of Resurrection.

There is a theory, which is included in the book 'The Camino de Santiago and the Game of the Goose', by Sebastián Vázquez, according to which the hermitage of the Virxe do Monte is the end of the Camino de la Resurrection, paradise or, as reported in the text, the 'Garden of the Goose'.

To begin the Way of the Resurrection, after leaving Santiago, the pilgrim will pass through Padrón, Noia, Fisterra and arrive in Muxía. There, in addition to finding the Cereixo translatio and the church of San Julián de Moraime, he will go down to the sanctuary of A Barca where the Pedra de Abalar is located.

Sebastián Vázquez says in the book that "it was in that place that the meeting between Santiago and Maria took place and, according to legend, she came just opposite, where the Virgen del Monte hermitage stands in Camariñas, proof of this is the footprints of her feet that are preserved on a stone in front of the hermitage. By sea, only four kilometers separate the two points. Therefore, the pilgrim will retrace his steps and arrive at Camariñas to finally access the Jardín de the Goose".
