The Camariñas City Council has published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) the basis of the XXXI contest for New Designers for the XXXIV Lace Show of Camariñas Provincial Council of Coruña, which will be held between April 16 and 20, 2025.
The main objective of the contest is to encourage and promote the application of Camariñas lace in fashion. The main novelty of this edition is that, through the evaluation of the official jury, the four best collections will be awarded instead of three, as until now. The first prize will be awarded with 2,100 euros, the second with 1,200 euros, the third with 700 euros and the fourth with 500 euros.
The deadline for submitting works begins today, Monday, September 2, and ends on December 2, 2024. The four designs that make up the collection must have Camariñas lace applied and those with different lace will not be accepted.
All new designers, between 18 and 40 years old, can participate in the call, regardless of their nationality or country of residence, as long as they are students who are studying in centers that teach design and tailoring techniques, whether or not they have completed their studies; and all those people linked to the world of design who, despite being professionals in the fashion sector, due to maintaining a contractual or autonomous relationship with some company in the sector, are not part of the same design team.
Participation can be done individually or in groups, in the latter case with a maximum of three people. Each applicant will present a collection composed of 4 designs. The theme and modality is free for both men's and women's fashion. Children's fashion designs are excluded.
For the presentation of the documentation, it can be done at the Casa do Concello de Camariñas, Plaza de Insuela number 57, during office hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday, and by certified mail.
The Councilor of Encaje, Encarna Liñeiro, hopes that "one more year, the girls and boys who participate in the contest will continue to maintain the high level shown in previous editions" and encourages them to "continue betting on lace as a cutting-edge tool".
